Assurance Notes | Now, ICMM members’ immediate priority is ensuring its full implementation. The Standard will be integrated into existing membership commitments, which includes third-party assurance and validation. Members have committed that all facilities with ‘Extreme’ or ‘Very high’ potential consequences will be in conformance with the Standard within three years from today, and all other sites within five years. Assurance is pending confirmation, to be implemented by the New Independent Global Tailings Management Institute, which was formed in January 2023 to oversee the implementation of, and conformance with, the GISTM standard. Assurance of the standard will be determined by an independent third party audit in future, however no specific dates have been announced on the implementation of the new assurance requirement. |
